Football and Grilling in Mid-Season Form
Fall in central Indiana is a perfect time of year. The sweltering August heat moves out, the leaves change colors and football is in full swing. With the kids back in school and travel season coming to an end, the best way to take a vacation is to open up your backdoor, set up camp on your deck, and fire up the grill.
Why Fall Is the Best Season for Grilling
Fall is perfect for cooking outside, as many popular fruits and vegetables are harvested. The midwest and places with more defined seasons bring an unmatched freshness in the fall. As the dead of winter approaches get your fill of these American dietary staples:
- Apples
- Broccoli
- Brussels Sprouts
- Carrots
- Cauliflower
- Grapes
- Mushrooms
- Onions
- Potatoes
- Spinach
- Zucchini
Besides the veggies being more fresh, the best part about cooking in the fall months is getting the most out of your grill before it gets too cold. As temperatures drop below 60 degrees and it becomes jeans weather, nothing is better standing next to one of our Pools of Fun high-end grills and getting your source of heat from where you cook your meat.
Hot dogs and hamburgers tend to fade out of fashion after Labor Day, and in place smoking heavier meats such ribs and briskets in style in the fall.
We sell the best grills on the market, such as Pappy’s Campfire Cooker, the Big Green Egg, Louisiana Grills, and Traeger Wood Pellet Grills at all 5 of our Customer Care Locations.
Football and Tailgating
Over the last ten years, America has changed it’s national pastime from baseball to football. Our state is no different. Central Indiana was fortunate enough for the Colts to pack up from Baltimore in 1984 and relocate to the Circle City. What’s happened since is a sea change to the old days around here. Fans used to twiddle their thumbs until basketball season tipped. Now, Hoosiers are geared up for Sundays with intense passion and support for the Colts.
Ever drive downtown on one of those eight Sundays a year? The atmosphere is electric, and the scene of 67,000 Colts fans filing into Lucas Oil Stadium has given the city a major buzz it once lacked.
Branch out north or south of Indy, and you’ll see even more fans taking in a Saturday in Bloomington, South Bend or West Lafayette. Maybe even your family has made the trek to a tailgate down there, and you’ve gotten your rear end stuck in a folding chair with a beverage in your hand. If so, good for you.
What’s goes hand-in-hand with football season? Grilling.
Even if it’s you throwing the pigskin around in the backyard with your kids, there’s just something about football, fall and grilling that meshes together. The smell of fire on your clothes, chill in the evening air, maybe a cold one to accompany you as a stereo plays. The stars are bright at night, the moon lights up everything the fire doesn’t. It’s perfection.
