Part III: Why Buy from a Qualified Pool Contractor
With over 35 years experience fixing (or bearing witness to someone else’s repairs) shoddy work, Pools of Fun can speak with authority on the subject of bad contractors. As Indiana’s number one pool builder, we’re experts in constructing beautiful swimming pools the right way. But also, from our vantage point, we know just as much in helping customers avoid bad contractors. This blog will help define what a bad contractor is, and how hiring the wrong company to build your pool can have terrible consequences.
Certification — Why is a certification important? Normally a bad contractor doesn’t care — but you should. Have you ever heard the following terms — turnover rate, VGB act, diving envelope, free board (and we’re not talking a free diving board!), chemical feeder output rate, flow rate, or lower distribution system? Chances are that the bad contractor hasn’t either. But the truth is that every one of these terms is essential in constructing a pool. Professional builders should always refer to this list of terms. They know this because they’ve taken the time to ensure compliance and quality craftsmanship. The bad contractor regurgitates information from where they buy supplies. They can get away with this because consumers don’t ask the right questions. Pools of Fun knows how to answer every question because we’ve done it.
Warranty – Most manufacturers won’t warrant their products if a builder isn’t certified to determine if the product is faulty or defective. A bad contractor will charge you to address warranty situation, as they’re usually not certified to determine the real problem. They’ll start replacing parts and hope it works. Typically, bad contractors don’t have the staff to handle warranty issues. That’s not in the business plan.
Diving Boards – Diving board or no diving board? This sounds simple enough, but does a bad contractor actually know and understand which boards are able to be installed in your backyard? Furthermore, has that person been able to spell out the nuances of insuring your pool for a diving board? Consulting a professional pool builder can keep you out of trouble by guaranteeing you’re compliant.
So make the right decision when you choose your pool builder. We’ve built thousands of pools and done it the right way. If you ever have any questions or suspect something we’ve outlined is afoul, give us a call. We’ll help get your project headed in the right direction if a bad contractor has ruined your installation.
