Reducing Chlorine Usage with UV and/or Ozone

Ultraviolet light (UV) generators and Ozonators are both effective and efficient ways to help sanitize your pool. But their benefits go beyond that. They can also help reduce the amount of chlorine up needed to maintain a safe and healthy pool up to 60%. In these times of chlorine shortages, one of these systems may be the right choice for you.

UV Generators Versus Ozonators
Both UV and ozone sanitizer technologies can eliminate chlorine byproducts and help make pools healthier and easier to manage. Both also improve and enhance the pool water better than a chemical sanitizer alone; however, UV sanitizers do not oxidize contaminants.

UV Systems
UV is considered one of the best technologies for pool water disinfection. These systems use UV-C light to break down the DNA of microorganisms, preventing them from spreading. Since the UV light is contained in a chamber, there is no exposure danger to the pool user. And, as an added bonus, it requires very little maintenance.

Ozonators
Ozone is a gas that is made up of oxygen atoms. It is useful in swimming pools because like UV light, it effectively kills and inactivates bacteria, parasites, and viruses. As an added benefit, ozone is an oxidizer which means it chemically destroys contaminants in the water.

Like UV systems, ozonators are installed in your pool’s circulation system. These systems use high electrical discharges to create ozone. Ozone actually oxidizes inorganic and organic chloramines to help reduce combined chlorine, which can cause skin and eye irritation.

Both systems installed together with the use of chemical sanitizers will provide the ultimate in sanitation for a healthy and clean pool. Keep in mind, direct exposure to ozone or UV-C light can be dangerous to humans and pets. This makes it very important that these systems are installed properly, preferably by a pool care specialist.

Contact Pools of Fun for the installation of your UV generator or Ozonator.
