Throw the Ultimate Back to School Pool Party for Your Kids

Going back to school is a stressful time for both parents and kids. The return of daily routines feel like a sad end to the freedom of summer, but it’s also the perfect opportunity to host one last pool party before covering the pool for fall. Read on for tips and advice on how to throw a fun pool party to get everyone through the back-to-school slump.

  • Have fun, delicious food: No pool party is complete without food, but why not be a little more creative than hot dogs, hamburgers, and chips? Consider offering snacks and appetizers, such as tropical guacamole and small fish-shaped sandwiches. For heavier food options, consider a Mediterranean salad or homemade pizzas. If you prefer to fire up the grill, barbecue chicken for a tasty BBQ chicken pizza. And of course, never forget the desserts. Fun cakes decorated to match the pool party theme are always welcome with children and adults, and homemade ice cream sandwiches are another popular summer treat.
  • Play pool games: Without a few games to get everyone in the water, your back to school party can’t truly be considered a pool party. A watermelon relay is a great game for getting everyone involved, and all it requires is that teammates take turns pushing the watermelon back and forth across the pool without touching the ground. Marco Polo and Sharks and Minnows are two traditional pool games that have become popular in several different forms and with several different sets of rules.
  • Make sure there’s music: In today’s world, it’s easy to make a playlist of favorite songs or find a radio station that plays all your favorite hits. Play music at your pool party even if it’s only background noise. Everyone enjoys music, and the right song could lead to a spontaneous dance party.
  • Invite all your friends: One of the best parts of having a pool party is seeing your friends outside of PTA meetings and sports events, and your kids can see their friends in a non-school-related setting as well. Also, by inviting a large number of people, you can be sure to have a hopping party even if several guests can’t make it. Another perk of more guests means more adult supervision, taking some of the weight off your shoulders.

If you have access to a pool, start planning your pool party today, and fight off that back-to-school slump!
